Communication Type Related to Job Satisfaction of Nurses in General Hospital¡¯s Emergency Room

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess how communication type affects job satisfaction of ER nurses working in a general hospital by measuring¡¯ ER nurses¡¯ communication type and job satisfaction and to seek basic information in order to improve the degree of communication type and job satisfaction of ER nurses

Method: A survey was conducted through the distribution of questionnaires to 141 ER nurses at general hospitals located in Daegu City for 9 days from January 2 to 10, 2008. Data was analyzed by multiple regression analysis with SPSS program (Windows ver. 12.0).

Result: The result of the tests to see how communication types effect job satisfaction indicated that upward-downward communication and informal communication made meaningful effect (p£¼.01). The result of how communication effect self-performance indicated that upward-downward communication and informal communication made meaningful effect (p£¼.01) for self-performance. The result of how communication types effect pay/promotion satisfaction indicated that downward- upward communication made statistically meaningful effect on job specialty (p£¼.01).

Conclusion: In conclusion, nurses¡¯ job satisfaction is an indicator of the effectiveness of nurses¡¯ organization and further study is necessary to examine variables how the effectiveness of nurses¡¯s organization affect job satisfaction.
